Introduction

An unscheduled routine inspection was conducted to assess compliance with the Community Care and Assisted Living Act (CCALA), the Child Care Licensing Regulations (CCLR) and the relevant Director of Licensing Standards of Practice (DoLSoP). All areas of the facility were inspected for compliance

Observed Violations
PHYSICAL FACILITY, EQUIPMENT AND FURNISHINGS: 11200 - CCLR s.17 - A licensee must ensure that children do not have access to any object or substance that may be hazardous to the health or safety of a child.
Observation (CORRECTED DURING INSPECTION): Licensing observed that an unlocked cabinet had a large bottle of beach and goo gone spray, which is accessible to children
Corrective Action(s): Please ensure that children do not have access to any object or substance that may be hazardous to the health or safety of a child

PHYSICAL FACILITY, EQUIPMENT AND FURNISHINGS: 11230 - CCLR s.47 - A licensee must ensure that any heated water accessible to children is heated to no more than 49° Celsius.
Observation: Licensing observed that heated water from the sink in the main area and bathroom, where children have access is heated over 49C.
Corrective Action(s): Please ensure that any heated any water accessible to children is heated to no more than 49C.

MEDICATION: 16010 - CCLR s.53(1)(a) - If a licensee has agreed with a parent to give a child any medication prescribed by a medical practitioner or provided by the parent, the licensee and his or her employees must ensure that the medication is (a) administered to the child in the amount and at the times specified by the child's parent or in the child's record or care plan.
Observation: Licensing observed that a child's medication administration form did not indicate the amount administered. The staff indiciated that medicine has previously been administered.
Corrective Action(s): Please ensure that the amount of medicine administered to the child is documented in the child's record

RECORDS AND REPORTING: 19210 - CCLR s.58(1)(a) - A licensee must keep, for each child requiring extra support, a current care plan showing the following information: (a) the diagnoses relevant to the child's requirement for extra support, as made by health care professionals.
Observation: Upon conversation with the manager, it was stated that a child has an egg allergy but facility has not created a careplan. Education provided on the importance of care plans and resources will be emailed to the facility.
Corrective Action(s): Pleae ensure care plan is created as per the requirments of S.58(1) of the CCLR.

Comments

At today’s inspection there were 11 children and 3 staff (including the manager) present.
At this inspection the above noted contraventions were identified. The Licensee will take action to bring the facility into compliance and provide a written response to the Licensing Officer by December 1st, 2022. The Licensing Officer will review the response.
As part of this routine inspection, a facility risk assessment tool is completed. The risk assessment includes any non-compliance identified during the routine inspection, a 3 year ‘historical’ review of the facility’s compliance and operation. This is used to determine inspection frequency.
The contents of the inspection report were reviewed with the manager and report was written on-site. A copy of this report will be emailed to the manager on November 24, 2022.
The following was discussed with the manager;
- Reminder about staff's first aid renewal
-Supervision plan for bathroom
- Safety checks of outdoor play environment
- Labelling drills according to the type conducted
- Sanitary practices for layout of children’s bedding
- Wall maintenance
-Ensuring information throughout children's registration forms is completed
-Daily attendance record fully completed
