Observation (CORRECTED DURING INSPECTION): Disinfectant is being used to disinfect semi-critical items however the chemical label shows it is beyond the expiry date which may lessen its effectiveness.
Corrective Action(s): High level chlorine disinfection is now being used to disinfect semi critical items (1/4 cup chlorine bleach in 2 cups water) as demonstrated during inspection. If using CS20, check expiry date and label should have a DIN number.

217 - Biomedical waste and/or sharps not disposed of in an adequate manner
Observation: Used pedicure blades are disposed of into a plastic container which is not a "sharps" container.
Corrective Action(s): For worker's safety, dispose pedicure blades into a sharps container.

Observation: Foot baths are disinfected with 400ppm chlorine and then cleaned with detergent and rinsed.
Corrective Action(s): Foot baths must be cleaned and then disinfected.
1. Clean with detergent/soap to remove oil and dirt.
2. Rinse with water.
3. Disinfect with an intermediate level disinfectant such as 1000 ppm chlorine (20 mL chlorine bleach in 1 liter of water or 4 tsp bleach in 4 cups water).
Post signs and update your infection control plan.

Observation (CORRECTED DURING INSPECTION): Wooden spatulas used to apply wax are discarded after each client but are dipped into wax pot more than once to apply wax to the same person. Today, wax in pot appears clean.
Corrective Action(s): Wax must be dispensed into a single use amount (such as into a cup) or a single use spatula must be used for each application and cannot be re-used on the same client.

Services provided: nails (manicure, pedicure, foot bath, artificial acrylic nails), esthetics (waxing, facials, eyelash/brow tinting, relaxation massage).
Nails:
* Critical items include pedicure /credo blade - single use and discarded after use into container that is not a sharps container. See above.
* Semi critical items include cuticle nippers, metal pushers, nail clippers, drill bits. High level disinfectant is used but is several months past expiry date. See above.
* Non critical foot bath is an acrylic/glass foot bath (tubeless, no bubbler). After use, chlorine bleach is used and then it is cleaned with a detergent. See above.
* Disposable single use items include absorbent files, buffers, cotton for between toes, callus buffing pad are discarded after use. Sanding bands to cover drill bits are re-used - see above.
* Hand washing sink has hot/cold water, liquid soap, single use hand drying towels. Nails brushes are disinfected with low level disinfectant.
Waxing:
* No ingrown hair removal.
* High level disinfection for tweezers.
* Disposable single use waxing strips and paper cover for treatment bed. See above re wooden spatulas.
* Hand washing sink in room has hot/cold water, liquid soap, single use hand drying towels.
Esthetics:
* No lancets.
* Eyelash and eyebrow tints are properly labeled (professional use only). Tint/color cup to be disinfected with high level disinfectant.
Use all chemicals in a safe manner as per directions on the label.
Premises is in a clean condition. Washroom hand sink has soap and single use hand towels.
