Introduction

An unscheduled routine inspection was conducted to assess compliance with the Community Care and Assisted Living Act (CCALA), the Child care Licensing Regulations (CCLR) and the relevant Director of Licensing Standards of Practice (DLSOP).
Evidence for this report was based on the Licensing Officer’s observations, review of the facility records and information provided by the facility staff at the time of inspection.

The following areas were reviewed:
Licensing
Physical Facility
Staffing
Policies and Procedures
Care and supervision/Hygiene and medication
Nutrition
Program
Child Records and reporting

As part of this Routine Inspection, a Facility Risk Assessment Tool is completed and a copy is provided to the facility.
The Risk Assessment includes any non-compliance identified during the routine inspection and a 3 year ‘historical’ review of the facility’s compliance and operation and is used to determine inspection frequency.

No violations were found during the inspection.

Comments

Comments/notes
The operation of the facility is in compliance with current regulations of the Community Care and Assisted Living Act (CCALA) and the Child Care Licensing Regulation (CCLR).

The Manager was on site today along with one staff with 17 children in care.
Staff to child ratio was in compliance with regulations and exceeded requirements with both staff qualified as ECE.
Programming is posted with monthly themes.
Licensing observed the children engaged in circle which included active play with children jumping and practicing balance, followed by free play, art, story time, followed by snack, and outdoor play. Staff was observed engaged with the children in their activities, providing assistance when required.
Health and hygiene is promoted, children were observed washing hands before snack.
Care plans are complete and current for the children requiring them.

Discussions with the Manager/Staff:
- Discussion on active supervision, and Licensing Officer to send out the Child Safety Alert bulletin to Manager.
- Discussion Re: Lead in drinking water
- Discussion Re: RI reporting and notifying Duty Licensing Officer
- Bill 5

There are no Exemptions/temporary placements in place.
